Policy

From Taboo to Treatment: The Case for Compassionate Access to Psilocybin in the UK — Drug Science, 2023. Role: Named author, International Policy. Named on the report's Authors page as Micheal Francis Bonertz, under the descriptor International Policy, one of ten people named there, alongside Professor Jo C Neill, Professor of Psychopharmacology at the University of Manchester, and Edward Jacobs, described in the report as Chief Research Officer of PsiloNautica. Produced by PsiloNautica with the support of the Drug Science Medical Psychedelic Working Group and released through Drug Science on 6 December 2023. The report runs to seventy-nine pages and considers compassionate-access models — including Canada's Special Access Programme — for patients with serious unmet need.

Special Access Program Tip Sheet for providers, suppliers and patients — MAPS Canada, first edition, December 2023; updated edition, November 2025. Role: credited under "Developed by", one of nine people named, on behalf of MAPS Canada's Psychedelic Access Community of Practice; the separate "Designed by" credit belongs to Sunny Yimeng Dong. The same "Developed by" credit appears on the cover of the November 2025 update that MAPS Canada publishes as the second edition. It gathers Health Canada process guidance, typical SAP responses, FAQs and application templates for navigating compassionate access. It is an independent educational resource, not a Health Canada document.

Psychedelic Access Community of Practice — MAPS Canada, member since November 2022. Role: volunteer member of the community of practice that produced the tip sheet, formerly the Psychedelics Special Access Program Community of Practice, including its 2023 tip sheet working group.

Public education

Contributed to Psychedelic Support substance guides: DMT, mescaline and ayahuasca — Psychedelic Support, 2023. Educational overviews of pharmacology, traditional and contemporary context, and risk considerations, written for a general and professional readership. Published under the house byline “By Psychedelic Support”.

The Heroic Dose vs. the Art of Dosing People — Psychedelic Scene Magazine, 31 May 2023. The article also appears in Psychedelic Pathways Magazine, Issue 3, 2025. Co-written with Bénédicte Mannix. An argument for dosing as a clinical and relational judgement rather than a number.

Risks to the Heart: A Cautionary Manifesto Against Microdosing from a Psychedelic Pharmacist — An Elegant Mind Counselling, 26 April 2023. On cardiac considerations in psychedelic use. Published under the byline “Micheal Bonertz BSc Pharmacy, RPH, in-house Psychedelic Pharmacy consultant”.

Contribution and authorship are different things, and the difference matters in a field where both get blurred. Where I contributed, this site says contributed. Where a document names me under "Developed by", it says that and nothing more.
